INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Instrumental Music is a subject offered to students in Year 4 to Year 12 in Queensland State Schools. Enrolment in the program is made by application and students who are successful, receive tuition on a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument.
Instrumental Music is supplementary to the classroom subjects and the higher levels can contribute to QCE attainment. Students involved gain lifelong skills and have access to invaluable opportunities and experiences.
Students in the program receive one 35 minute lesson each week on their instrument during class time and they also play in the school's concert band as a mandatory part of the program, when sufficiently skilled. Band rehearsals are held oustide of school time from 3:00pm until 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoons. Students must make every effort to be available for band rehearsals and performances throughout the year.
Instruction is available for the following Concert Band instruments:
Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, French Horn and Tuba
Woodwind: Flute/Piccolo, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Saxophone (Alto/Tenor/Baritone) and Oboe
Percussion: Tuned (Mallets - Xylophone, Glockenspiel), Untuned (Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Auxiliary percussion instruments)
String: Bass Guitar
Please note that instruction is not available for Piano or Guitar, as these are not Concert Band instruments. However, students interested in learning the keyboard are encouraged to play Xylophone and Glockenspiel in the Instrumental Music Program as the skills developed are similar.
